Abstract
This research delves into the evolution of Computer Science and Electronics Engineering as two interconnected disciplines that are fueling the growth of the software industry in the world. With the software industry experiencing unprecedented growth, there is a rush among graduates to join this lucrative field. While Computer Science graduates are well-prepared for software industry jobs with core subjects such as Programming Languages, Computer Organization, Operating Systems, Computer Networks, Database Management, etc., graduates from non-computer science disciplines may face challenges due to the lack of these core subjects in their curriculum. However, many non-computer-science graduates are now acquiring the necessary skills through technical training and eventually joining the software profession. In India, students often opt for Electronics Engineering as it provides opportunities in both the Software and Electronics Industries. To meet the demands of the software industry and to bridge the gap between academia and industry, the Electronics Engineering department is integrating more computer engineering-related courses. Furthermore, this research, based on a comparison of curriculum data from two major technical universities in India - Anna University in Tamil Nadu and Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University in Hyderabad, examines how Computer Science and Electronics Engineering graduates are dominating the software industry in the world and provides evidence for requests for evidence (RFEs) in the USA H-1B visa application process. The study reveals that RFEs often do not consider the interdependence of Computer Science and Electronics Engineering in the software industry, leading to delays in visa processing. This paper investigates the importance of two disciplines within the software industry and their interconnectedness, with the aim of demonstrating how this understanding can enhance the H-1B visa application process. Additionally, this examination seeks to highlight how acknowledging the significance of these disciplines can create increased opportunities for skilled professionals to contribute to the growth of the software industry in the USA.
