Abstract
Peer-to-Peer (P2P) methods have been regarded as an ideal solution for large live streaming platforms due to their low cost and scalability, they tend to cause delays in playback. In order to address this issue, we have proposed a method that allows a P2P system to select its neighbour peers more efficiently. The proposed method allows the system to select its neighbour peers even if the number of connectable peers has already exceeded the maximum. This method would greatly increase the data duplication among the peers and make the system's playback range denser. To prevent degradation in the quality of the system's playback, the method only performs connection switching if all of the other connectable peers have sufficient buffer data. Through extensive simulations, the proposed method significantly lowers the start-up latency and playback lag.
